Love of my life

I haven't blogged in awhile but I definitely think I will a lot more...with a new focus...do you hear wedding bells? Well I do.

On April 2nd, 2011 my high school sweetheart asked me to marry him. Yes, I'm engaged. And loving it. It's been such a whirlwind and the planning is getting busy already! We are planning for Sept. 17th, 2011 (so close!) at our favourite location - Pender Harbour, BC.

More details later.

The beautiful things heaven bears...

I think I fall in love with the books I'm reading.
Maybe a bit too much.

So, quick update. Got a new job that I'm loving (still at American Apparel on the weekends though) and on my second day, I got in a car accident. Bummer yes, but no complaining when there's people suffering in Japan...so yah, my car is, needless to say, a goner! So that means, public transit everyday all day. Yeup. It's grand. You know why? Because I get a dedicated time to read. Or sleep. My choice!

Currently I'm reading "The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears" - a novel about an Ethiopian man who lives in the ghetto and owns a run-down convenience store. He's trying to live the American dream but can't survive. Until he meets a white lady Judith and her biracial daughter Naomi, his new neighbours who open his life to something new.

Simply put, IT IS VERY GOOD.

Standing still like a tree

Moi.

Lately, forest green, asphalt, black, and hints of a deep brown are in most of my outfits. I don't know what it is, or why, but I'm so drawn to these dark colours. I guess it was my fall "look" but I can't be like this for Spring! (Although I know I will carry my green pieces into that season.) The lieutenant green oversized chiffon shirt is layering a black-scoop back velvet dress. To keep warm, I coated myself with a tweed-looking grey blazer I scored with my mom at a thrift shop. It's way too big for me, but that's alright. Opaque black pantyhose never go wrong, so I paired them with a pair of 5-inch clog heels for that extra height. My accessories cost $6 in total - little leather purse and woven belt were found at the Salvation Army. Hah. Army - that's where I look like I belong in this photo.

Too excited for summer apparel!

Ola!

So the weather in Vancouver is starting to warm up (with the occasional surprise of downpours of non-stop rain) but nonetheless, summer is in only a few months and thanks to my April issue of FASHION magazine, I'm going to treat myself to a new pair of summer heels that I cannot pass up.

Originally I had my heart set on these Jeffrey Cambell floral wedges for $114. And they are worth the money, considering that a heel that high has never been so comfortable in my entire life! Take a peek:

Beautiful, right? Available at SolesStruck.com.

...but because I'm on a money-crunch and need to save my pennies - while still looking stylish of course - I am going to settle for a pair of shoes that are half the price and look cute! Floral prints are in for Spring and I'm so excited! When my magazine informed me that The Shoe Company sells the shoe below for $45, I knew I had to check 'em out. So that's what I'm doing today! Hope they have my size. Take a peek:

Floral Gossip shoes, $45. Recommended by FASHION editors.

Decisions, decisions!

*UPDATE: I decided. I got the floral Gossip heels and they look divine on my feet!

My downtime read

I'm currently enjoying each word of this novel during my commute, downtime, and much needed breaks from life. Anita Shreve has grabbed my by the nose and literally has me snooping into a woman's life and how she deals with the death of her husband when his plane crashes. Each page turned brings me closer to finding out what really happened in the pilots life...why did the plane come tumbling down with hundreds of passengers when he was in control? I will have to find out at the same pace as his wife does. Which makes me feeling like I'm reading the book with the pilot's wife. We are finding out the unknown secrets together, and I feel like I'm emotionally supporting her by divulging in each word. So far, it's a wonderful read - thank you Anita.
