Love of my life

I haven't blogged in awhile but I definitely think I will a lot more...with a new focus...do you hear wedding bells? Well I do.

On April 2nd, 2011 my high school sweetheart asked me to marry him. Yes, I'm engaged. And loving it. It's been such a whirlwind and the planning is getting busy already! We are planning for Sept. 17th, 2011 (so close!) at our favourite location - Pender Harbour, BC.

More details later.

The beautiful things heaven bears...

I think I fall in love with the books I'm reading.
Maybe a bit too much.

So, quick update. Got a new job that I'm loving (still at American Apparel on the weekends though) and on my second day, I got in a car accident. Bummer yes, but no complaining when there's people suffering in Japan...so yah, my car is, needless to say, a goner! So that means, public transit everyday all day. Yeup. It's grand. You know why? Because I get a dedicated time to read. Or sleep. My choice!

Currently I'm reading "The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears" - a novel about an Ethiopian man who lives in the ghetto and owns a run-down convenience store. He's trying to live the American dream but can't survive. Until he meets a white lady Judith and her biracial daughter Naomi, his new neighbours who open his life to something new.

Simply put, IT IS VERY GOOD.

Standing still like a tree

Moi.

Lately, forest green, asphalt, black, and hints of a deep brown are in most of my outfits. I don't know what it is, or why, but I'm so drawn to these dark colours. I guess it was my fall "look" but I can't be like this for Spring! (Although I know I will carry my green pieces into that season.) The lieutenant green oversized chiffon shirt is layering a black-scoop back velvet dress. To keep warm, I coated myself with a tweed-looking grey blazer I scored with my mom at a thrift shop. It's way too big for me, but that's alright. Opaque black pantyhose never go wrong, so I paired them with a pair of 5-inch clog heels for that extra height. My accessories cost $6 in total - little leather purse and woven belt were found at the Salvation Army. Hah. Army - that's where I look like I belong in this photo.

Too excited for summer apparel!

Ola!

So the weather in Vancouver is starting to warm up (with the occasional surprise of downpours of non-stop rain) but nonetheless, summer is in only a few months and thanks to my April issue of FASHION magazine, I'm going to treat myself to a new pair of summer heels that I cannot pass up.

Originally I had my heart set on these Jeffrey Cambell floral wedges for $114. And they are worth the money, considering that a heel that high has never been so comfortable in my entire life! Take a peek:

Beautiful, right? Available at SolesStruck.com.

...but because I'm on a money-crunch and need to save my pennies - while still looking stylish of course - I am going to settle for a pair of shoes that are half the price and look cute! Floral prints are in for Spring and I'm so excited! When my magazine informed me that The Shoe Company sells the shoe below for $45, I knew I had to check 'em out. So that's what I'm doing today! Hope they have my size. Take a peek:

Floral Gossip shoes, $45. Recommended by FASHION editors.

Decisions, decisions!

*UPDATE: I decided. I got the floral Gossip heels and they look divine on my feet!

My downtime read

I'm currently enjoying each word of this novel during my commute, downtime, and much needed breaks from life. Anita Shreve has grabbed my by the nose and literally has me snooping into a woman's life and how she deals with the death of her husband when his plane crashes. Each page turned brings me closer to finding out what really happened in the pilots life...why did the plane come tumbling down with hundreds of passengers when he was in control? I will have to find out at the same pace as his wife does. Which makes me feeling like I'm reading the book with the pilot's wife. We are finding out the unknown secrets together, and I feel like I'm emotionally supporting her by divulging in each word. So far, it's a wonderful read - thank you Anita.

My escapes

When life gets to hectic sometimes we just need to chill out and escape. Right? Well of course! If we didn't, we'd turn loco. And being loco is not a pretty picture. So today I need to de-stress.

Up until today, my first thing to do when I need some quality alone time is SHOPPING FOR MYSELF - but how selfish does that sound? and expensive? I just looked in my wardrobe and realized that if I buy another clothing item, I am going to have to slap myself across the face. MY CLOSET IS OVERFLOWING WITH EVERY FABRIC UNDER THE SUN!

Therefore, my escape today will not be shopping. Instead it will be finding a new book to read, and then going for a much needed run. Yes. Mental and physical well being is what I'm talking about. It's going to be grand. And that's my plan.

ACTUALLY, it's my goal! To run more. So much more that I could enter a marathon. And read a heck of a lot more so I can become a better writer. Maybe review books. Who knows? I'm liking the looks of this.

Hello February

Today a boy from Switzerland bought me a box of Lindor chocolates when he purchased his clothing items from the store.

You could say I was being a friendly sales associate, but I guess he liked me.

It was sweet, to say the least, even if I have a boyfriend.

When he left he smiled and waved...then I opened the box to have a chocolate and saw a note inside with a long 20-digit phone number and scripture saying: "Call Me, Ciao Bella!"

Cute huh? He also said, "Happy Valentines Day" before he left.

I obviously was happy to receive such a nice compliment from a stranger, and when I told my boyfriend the story, he wasn't even phased! He's like that's good -- I love you!

Ahhh it's nice to have a boyfriend who is comfortable and not a psycho jealous guy.

Hmmmmm I guess I still got my game going ;)

As of right now

This blog seems to be turning into a diary. Which is not what I want entirely, because I'd rather have a creative outlet to show how much I love fashion, literature, art, cooking, and just making random things on my own. I will have to get into that soon. Much much more.

So right now I am chilling with Lincoln on my day off. I should take him for a walk soon; he's growing up to be a big boy and he needs to get out and run off his energy! Later tonight I plan on hanging out with my little sister for a couple of drinks to celebrate her travels to the Netherlands for five months. Should be a fun time, but it will be weird that she isn't just a phone call away anymore in a few days.

What else? I got paid today. But I won't be spending it on myself! I'm giving it all to my boyfriend to buy a new snowboard with new bindings. His got stolen (which made him very upset to say the least) so I'm going to cheer him up and pay for a new one for him. Change is good right? He needed a new board anyways. So it's all good. I'm going to be happy when he gets it and can return back on the slopes. What's even better is that we are going to Big White for a two-day snowboarding trip with a group of people I barely know, but at least they are fun! I'm hoping that I will remember how to snowboard now because it surely has been awhile...now I need to hunt for some hoodies and toques before we go!

Mmmm that's all for now. Boring update, yes. But it's an update at least.

Happy birthday to...Matt!

Nothing's better than spending a quiet evening at home eating Dairy Queen ice cream cake and watching movies.

Happy 23rd babe. Hope it's a good year.

Lincoln!

There comes a point in time where I stop and think, "how different is this?" but in a good way. That's exactly how I felt when my boyfriend and I decided to buy a puppy to mark his 23rd birthday and our four and a half year dating-anniversary.

Life is very different now with a puppy! Lincoln, a mixed breed of Presa Canario and Cane Corso, is only eight weeks old and our world revolves around his every move. We have to train him, watch out for him, spend a fortune at Petsmart for him, all because he is our baby now.

I laughed when my boyfriend and I decided to take part in this commitment to have a puppy together. Who knows? Lincoln may live long enough be our family dog! He's expected to weigh near 150 pounds by the age of two -- which is heavier than myself, but I'm a sucker for big dogs. Always have, always will. It's the only kind of dogs I've ever owned and loved.

So how did we know Lincoln was the one from a litter of four? Well, he had more of a caramel coloured coat and he was much bigger than the rest. In addition, he kept playing with the ends of Matt's jeans and wanting to be around him and I thought he was just adorable, so it was a done deal.

Now we are in for a real ride...Lincoln loves to bite on everything imaginable and cry to the heavens when we aren't by his side. He pees like everywhere must mark his territory and he's the biggest cuddler in the whole wide world.

All in all, we love him. And I couldn't ask for a better puppy. There will be struggles and laughs, but that's expected. He's now welcomed into our home and makes us a little bitty family!

3, 2, 1...

Happy New Years and I hope 2011 will treat you wonderfully.
